Water Overview

A comprehensive framework of reforms and commitments to address water security issues in South Australia, is contained in “Water for Good: a plan to ensure our water future to 2050”. This plan designates the Commission as the independent economic regulator for monopoly supplies of urban water and sewerage services in South Australia.

The Commission’s role, as laid out in Water for Good, encompasses licensing, consumer protection, performance monitoring, compliance and pricing matters.

The draft Water Industry Bill (Bill) has been tabled in Parliament, signalling the commencement of a public consultation period on, amongst other things, the proposed regulatory regime to the water and sewerage services industries in South Australia.

The Treasurer has requested advice from the Commission on several matters concerning the economic regulation of the SA water industry.  The Commission has prepared a Statement of Issues on the Economic Regulation of the South Australian Water Industry as a first step in its public consultation process on the nature and form of the new water industry economic regulatory regime.
